Melitour “Textiles and Fabrics”  September 8-22, 2005

9/20/05  Day Fourteen

Walked to the beach taking pictures. Breakfast of yogurt and museli, green olives, crème coffee and a Turkish sweet.

We went via our bus to Meli’s summer home. We met her mother with whom she lives and wandered around the multi-storied fabulously decorated house. Classical music could be heard even on the terrace by the pool. We planned what to buy at the local outdoor market. Block cheese and greens were 2 lira a kilo; apricots 8 lira/kilo; olives 4 lira per kilo; Italian olives 1 lira for 2 kilos.

Took the newly purchased food to Meli’s farm. We had a fabulous time learning how to cook different foods and eating them on the terrace. The kitchen was just installed last night in honor of our visit. Met Meli’s sister and her African-American husband who manage foreigners’ summer homes as a new business. Cooking trick is a dash of sugar.

Stopped off at the Selcuk Republic of Turkey building where students are taught weaving and there is a store to purchase items. I bought a lovely old Turkoman door hanging.

Swim in the Sunset Plaza large pool. Dinner of good soup and crème caramel.
