An early start to Lake Karakul along theKarakorum highway that was part of the Silk Road with K2 and the Pamir mountains in the distance and magnificent sand dunes. The road was dense with carts and motorbikes and yaks in the fields.

The colors of the rocks were changing around each curve. It is amazing to know that the steep cliffs, the rushing watr and the snow capped  mountains were here and were probably admired by  Morco Polo who also took this road in his journey. It is strange to think that if he had a camare, he probably woulld have taken the same pictures.

We stopped off at a village for bread and fruit to augment out lunch that was a Chinese style with 10 dishes! We were regales during lunch with a view of the mountains and the lake. We had to be careful about walking slowly since we at 11, 800 ft. It was a long day of travel- 4 hours each way. Dinner at the former Russian embassy.

My group is still somewhere in China. I feel like a mother who had lost her children. But I knkow they are in safe hands.
I did not turn down the offer of our Kyrgyz guide, Nazar. He picked me up early in the morning for a nice walk in the Aladag mountains. In the heat of August in Bishkek, I was warneed that the mountain will be cold. Reluctantly I took my

Big black shawl with me. I am glad I did. since it always always start raining after noon, all those who wanted to have picnic and a good morning walk were here. The streem coming down from the snow covered peaks of Aladag was running so fast as if it was in a hurry to get to somewhere.

When I returned to Bishkek,  I  wanted to catch up with the world events.
Turned on my TV and watched what was happening in the US election campaign. It seems like Obama will make it. but time will show.
