We
started the day by driving through the three cities/valleys
of Fes. Then we began exploring
the old Medina of Fes by foot, an extremely interesting and
fascinating place.
We visited an operating Jewish Synagogue and
talked with the Rabbi. Most of today was spent in the Souk of
Fes,
with an introductory tour by Meli & Haji.
This is an incredible maze of very over crowded alleys. In this
maze, Meli lead us to the
most
beautiful Oasis-and antique shop where we could
rest and enjoy
some mint tea. We peaked in on
a small classroom of young children,
when they saw us they all
broke out in song. While in the Souk, we also visited a
leather
tannery/shop. Viewed the leather dyeing vats outside and the
bags of sheered
wool inprocess and
beautiful finished goods. After another delicious lunch we
visited
pottery and mosaic work shop. We returned to to our same hotel at
the end of the day.
